2600Mhz 4G Spectrum Bid Results

Yesterday, Myanmar Post and Telecommunication Department (PTD) has released on his website the spectrum bid result for 2600Mhz band.
As we discussed in a previous post, 2x20mhz span across 3 regions were auctioned allowing the winning bidders to operate 4G LTE networks.

The auction result comes up unexpectly high demonstrating a huge interest from the successful bidders.

Yatanarpon Teleport and Amara Communication invest respectively 107M$ and 123M$ for region 2 (Yangon, Ayeyawaddy, Rakhine) and region 3 (Mandalay, Sagaing, Chin, Shan, Kachin, Kayah).
Fortune and Global Technology get awarded region 1(Nay Pyi Taw, Magway, Bago, Mon, Kayin, Tanintharyi) for respectively 6M$ and 7M$.
Three of the winning bidders are no strangers to the telecom market in Myanmar.
First, Yatanarpon Teleport (YTP), state-owned telecom service provider founded in 2001 in Myanmar has already invested massively in network infrastructure (FTTx, DSL) in Myanmar.
Fortune International aka Fortune Broadband is one of the FTTx companies in Myanmar, former reseller of YTP services and now full-fledged operator with big ambitions.
Global Technology aka Globalnet, RedLink sister company, is a large Internet service provider mostly targeting corporate customers.
Then comes the surprise, Amara Communication. Amara is part of IGE Group of Companies, one of Myanmar biggest conglomerates that employ more than 3000 people. It is mostly involved in the banking, hospitality and oil&gas sector but not in ISP business until today.
With this new valuable asset purchased at high cost, Amara demonstrate new ambitions for the telecom sector. The challenge is important as it now needs to build from scratch an Internet Service Provider Network.
For all the winners, now comes the time for execution and it will take probably one year to see the first 4G broadband networks go on air.
